Michael Alden Hadreas is Perfume Genius. He is an American songwriter, singer, and musician. His style is deeply personal and expressive. Perfume Genius's stage name was inspired by the genius perfume-maker in the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. He blends beauty, sadness, tenderness, confusion, and challenges long established conventional thinking. There is a vulnerability particularly in relation to his own queerness. He is a modern pop icon, fearlessly pushing boundaries with his delicate, yet synth driven anthems.

The Music Box in San Diego is a popular venue. He performed there as part of the Glory Tour. It has just the right atmosphere for Perfume Genius to share his brand of artistry. The topics he explored included that of his personal struggle with Crohn's disease and the battle that gay men encounter even today in 2025.

When you hear his voice you are fascinated, as was the audience on May 8th at the Music Box. It was hard for anyone at the concert to take their eyes off this interesting, emotional and talented artist. He looked and sounded great.
