Sons of Cream

Sons of Cream Tour

The Belly Up

March 12, 2025

The ā€œSons of Creamā€ rocked the appreciative crowd at the Belly Up back into our youthful days of the 1960ā€™s playing the songs of their namesake band ā€œCreamā€. The band is made up of Kofi Baker on drums (son of Ginger Baker drum player for Cream), Malcolm Bruce on Guitar (son of Jack Bruce Bass player and lead vocalist for Cream) and Rob Johnson on Lead Guitar (Great-nephew of Ginger Baker).

They werenā€™t just some cover band playing Cream songs. They channeled their DNA connections to the original players in the band by showing their ability to extend guitar riffs (Rob Johnson), punch out some strong and powerful vocals (Malcolm Bruce), and play excellent drum fills and even a long drum solo (Kofi Baker).

The 19 song 2 Ā½ hour performance managed to squeeze in most of the original hit songs by Cream. Some of my favorite songs were, ā€œWhite Roomā€, ā€œIā€™m So Gladā€, and ā€œCrossroadsā€. The band brought the awesome concert to an end playing perennial favorites, ā€œSpoonfulā€ and ā€œSunshine of your Loveā€, both of which earned a loud standing ovation from the crowd.

Walking back to my car I had a lighter step. I felt like I was 19 years old dancing my way through life again without a care in the world. If you want a chance to turn back the clock to the days of your youth, I recommend catching Sons of Cream live while they are still on tour.

*A footnote for those who may have been too young to remember Cream.

Cream were a British rock supergroup formed in London in 1966. Between 1966 and 1969 the band sold 15 million albums worldwide. The group consisted of bassist Jack Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. Bruce was the primary songwriter and vocalist, although Clapton and Baker contributed to songs. Formed by members of previously successful bands, they are widely considered the first supergroup.] Cream were highly regarded for the instrumental proficiency of each of their members
