Namm Show in Anaheim, California

No where else except the NAMM Show can you find a gathering of this magnitude relating to the music world.

If you want to learn, earn, buy, sell, listen to, and touch, the NAMM Show is for you. You can count on four days of viewing every kind of musical instrument and/or piece of related equipment in one gigantic place, namely the Anaheim Convention Center. Although this year's event was a condensed version from the pre-pandemic of January 2020, it still possessed a generous helping of workshops, training sessions, and an easily accessible way to connect with contemporaries and also keep in the loop regarding new technologies.

Music for Life Award
On hand was John Fogerty to receive the esteemed Music For Life Award (see images below). He has been touring and will continue to do so thru August 15th. As of late John Fogerty acquired publishing rights for his Creedence Clearwater Revival songs from Concord Music. He finally owns his own song rights again! It has taken 50 years to do so, but now brings a renewed excitement for Fogerty at the ripe young age of 77 to be in control of his music.

This was one of my favorite meetings that I attended at NAMM. Here's the story...First of all I didn't want to be late and not get a seat up front (like I did for Brandi Carlile) so I got there early and there was only one other man sitting at the front center table. I sat down at the table and said hi to him and we started talking about music and NAMM, etc and then I noticed his name on his Pass: Will Calhoun of the band "Living Color"!!! Where else but NAMM could I end up sitting next to and talk to a famous musician?? The Grammys??? I was lucky enough to be able to talk with him during the whole session!! Also, Jeff Beck was and still is one of my favorite guitar players. I first heard him in 1969 when he released "Beck's Bolero" which also featured fellow Yardbird bandmate Jimmy Page. That song blew my mind!!! After listening to the song "Louie Louie" my mind wasn't prepared for two lead guitars full of feedback!!! The people chosen to provide the truth about Jeff Beck were also musical stars in their own right. Jennifer Batten played guitar on tour with Michael Jackson before playing on tour with Jeff Beck. Rhonda Smith played Bass for Prince before joining Jeff Beck on tour. Nara Michael Wheldon played with many famous bands before touring with Jeff Beck and Robert Adam Stevenson played keys on Jeff Beck's last album besides playing on tour with JB!! Pretty heady group of people and their stories about what JB was like on tour and as a person were heartwarming.. By Steve Anderson
