Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino, known better as the music duo Matt and Kim, are currently on the road headlining dates across North America in support of their sixth studio album Almost Everyday. They’ll be performing for the sixth time in San Diego, at The Observatory in North Park, on Monday, April 9th.  The support acts are CRUISR and TWINKIDS.  Most of the time I like to buy the album in advance of a show and give it a few solid rotations, and others, like this time, I’ll hear them live in advance of the album being released.  Having seen them multiple times before, I know they put on a really kick-ass performance, with their infectious, beat-driven anthems like “Daylight,” “Let’s Go” and “Cameras.”

Almost Everyday, which will be released in May on the FADER Label, was written while the band was sidelined for almost a year after Kim suffered a torn ACL while performing on stage at the Vaiven Festival in Mexico.  Matt and Kim were able to use this time to focus on songwriting, starting one month after Kim’s surgery, and complete Almost Everyday, which is one of the band’s most personal releases to date, see the album cover and tracklisting below.  Helping out with vocals on this record are Mark Hoppus, Clairo, King Tuff, Flosstradamus, Santigold, Kevin Morby, Cole and Max Becker from SWMRS, Kevin Ray from Walk The Moon, Travis Hayley from Night Riots, HXLT, Dave Monks from Tokyo Police Club, Van William from Waters, and Fletcher C. Johnson.

About the writing process of Almost Everyday, Matt says, “2017 was not a great year for us. Kim got really depressed during her recovery, and anyone who knows Kim (or has seen her play) knows she's such a bad-ass upbeat person so it was hard. Then of course almost every day it seemed like there was another terrible headline. I feel since the beginning of music people have used writing songs as a form of therapy, but I’m not sure we ever really did…until 2017.”
