The crowd at the House of Blues in San Diego was treated to an intimate acoustic solo show by Nick Fradiani along with bandmates Eric Donnelly on lead guitar and Ryan Zipp, a.k.a. Zippi on Cajon, (a percussion instrument most often plywood, played with hands, brushes or mallets). The show moved along seamlessly from the very first song.
Fradiani's voice was strong and he never missed a beat. During the American Idol Season 15 of which he was the winner, Fradiani was never fully allowed to bring out his musical chops in his own distinctive way. That is now thankfully a thing of the past! His connection with the audience is pure and natural, especially when bantering about his days as the leader of Beach Avenue, a pop/rock local band who went on to win Battle of the Bands 2011 at the Mohegan Sun.
The 15 song concert setlist opened with "We Live Forever", moving along with a variety of top-notch tunes, some covers, case in point Billy Joel's quirky The Downeaster 'Alexa,' and his version of the late Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers number "Mary Jane's Last Dance," the new included "I'll Wait For You" from the Where We Left Off -Ep that dropped two days after the show on Oct 13th.
The closer was the ever popular 2015 inaugural American Idol winner's song "Beautiful Life" written by Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba and Rykeyz and Ayanna Elese.
Nick Fradiani is well on his way to becoming a polished consummate professional with a long and enduring career ahead of him. An A+ rating for this singer-songwriter who brings it all to the table.
